Cultural Context: Spain
Core Values: National and Local Identity, Family
Home and Family: Nuclear families are common, with extended family usually in close proximity if possible. Older generations tend to be more independent but will move in with family if there is a need. It is also common for children to live in their parent’s house well into their 30s or 40s, or for multiple generations to live together under one roof.
Communication and some “Buzz Words”: Spanish communication is marked by sincerity and direct styles of communication. Humor is also noted in many Spanish speaking communities, but never usually at the expense of another person. Furthermore, there is a formal form of the word “you” signifying respect between two people in the Castilian Spanish Language. The formal “you” in Spanish is “usted”, however it is not used much in common conversation.
Note: In this story, Castilian Spanish is used based on the location. Castilian Spanish is the Spanish variant spoken in Spain.
